Not only is Candice Swanepoel a successful supermodel, she can also add designer to her resume! The South African stunner designed a collection of ’90s inspired jeans, including slashed denim and shorts, for Mother Denim.
Candice is often seen rocking high waisted jeans or ripped denim as her off duty style, so it’s no surprise she is designing denim–she knows denim!
The Victoria’s Secret Angel spoke to Vogue about her new collection and what inspired her–the denim shorts Cindy Crawford wore in the 1992 Pepsi commercial that first aired during the Superbowl.
“I love that image, so that’s where it all started. It’s not that dress-up denim–it’s more ‘girl off-duty.’ That relaxed look that was still sexy. They just threw on a white shirt and the jeans kind of did it all,” Candice told Vogue.com.
A portion of proceed from the collection goes to South African based mothers2mothers, a organization that helps prevent the spread of HIV between mother and child.
The jeans also feature her family crest. a detail she wanted to add to give love to her family and roots in South Africa.
“It’s pretty little and funny–it’s a swan in a pool. When we were talking about details, I thought that was a cute touch. I thought if I’m putting my name on the jeans, my crest should be on it too–make my make proud!” she told Vogue.com.
